Happy Hiking

So, on Sunday Eric got off work early (11:30). Since he has not had a day off in over three weeks and he won't have one until we go back to Nebraska, we decided to take advantage of our family time opportunity and go up into the mountains. Plus, we don't have cell phone reception up there, so there was no chance of Eric getting called back to work. :) The Aspen trees' leaves are changing and we wanted to see them before they were gone. It was well worth the drive. The leaves were beautiful and the weather was a perfect 70 degrees.

We planned on driving up through Estes Park and over to Idaho Springs, but as we passed Wild Basin, we couldn't resist the urge to stop and hike there. God knew just what we needed. It was quiet and peaceful. There is a creek that runs by the hiking path and we could catch glimpses of it. There were even a few places where we could walk right down by the creek. The water was cold, but so clean and clear.

Of course, the hike wouldn't be complete without someone falling into the creek. When Caydee dropped her walking stick in the water, Kalten tried to retreive it and became that poor guy. At least the water was not deep and he only got his feet wet. I did not catch him in the water, but did get him retreiving both of their walking sticks afterword.

As we walked further in, there was a path that led to the upper and lower falls. We found them to be utterly breathtaking. Before hiking back to the van, we all stopped for a snack and the opportunity to sit quietly and enjoy God's great work. Yes, the kids and Joba were actually quiet during this time. I guess the beauty and wonder of it all was not wasted on them.

All in all it was an amazing afternoon full of family. We miss Eric greatly as he works so much, but it also helps us appreciate moments like this even more. May God bless you this week and may you feel as blessed as we do.
